Creativity at the heart of the curriculum
Students at CinéCréatis, whether in their first, second or third year, are immersed in a course focused on audiovisual creation. Throughout their training, they are encouraged to make films in a variety of formats and genres, including documentaries, commercials, mini-shorts, graduation films and “à la manière de” projects.
Each stage of their course is marked by concrete productions that encourage them to develop their artistic, technical and narrative skills. At the end of their training, these creations are showcased at the CinéCréatis Grand Prix, where they can receive a number of awards including the Jury Prize, the Jury’s Favourite, the Jury’s Special Mention or the Audience Prize.(see the prizes for the class of 2024 here )
CinéCréatis films at festivals: three films stand out in 2024
This year, 12 promising films were shortlisted, and the selection process proved extremely complex given the high quality of the projects. In the end, three films were chosen to represent CinéCréatis at various national and international festivals: L’annonce, H.Ô.T.E.L and Papillon de soi.
L’Annonce is a short film made by students from the Nantes Campus: Thomas Devoiseau, a 25-year-old psychiatry student, attends his grandmother’s wake at the family home. The old lady who died the day before was a leading neurosurgeon who had instilled a strict educational model based on professional and financial success. For the Devoiseaus, it’s medicine or nothing. Thomas is fed up and wants to take the opportunity to tell his family that he is quitting his studies, but the task is going to prove more complicated than expected…
H.O.T.E.L is a short film made by students in Lyon: Alan, in his thirties, has been staying for several months at H.O.T.E.L., a luxury establishment where the spirits of people who have fallen into a coma are welcomed. Settling into a routine, he makes the most of the hotel’s comforts and activities. But one day, Alan falls under the spell of Alizée, a young resident who is going to shake up his daily routine. Alan begins to thrive in this new lifestyle, but when Alizée is forced to leave the hotel, he is forced to stay. Alan tries everything he can to leave the hotel.
Papillon de soi is a short film made by students at Montpellier: Mary’s violent, dreamlike experience of metamorphosis.
Although only three films have been selected at this stage, others could benefit from festival representation over the course of the year, testifying to the remarkable potential of our young creators.
